| Thats the line they will try to tell you. Everything is open to negotiation when it comes to insurance companies. They are a business like any other, and you are a customer. You can argue over the technicalities if it goes to court, in the meantime, its just a bartering session between a business service and a consumer. KBB and nada and all that are not magic, or legally sanctioned, or anything like that. They are just a popular source estimated prices. if you are trying to collect insurance on a $20,000 built engine or a stereo system, thats a lot different. I am just stating that the fair market value for a well maintained Z is well above teh kbb estimated value and obviously the insurance company is going to offer the lower value even if they did know the true value. That being said they owe you a fair market value for a similar vehicle. you can almost always get them to move beyond kbb with no litigation, just asking reasonably and persistently. Just make a strong case and they will usually budge a decent ammount. Almost surely not to the "true" value of the car, but a heck of a lot higher then the absurdly low book prices KBB says that a 1990 300zxTT with 65k miles is worth Excellent Looks new, is in excellent mechanical condition and needs no reconditioning. Never had any paint or body work and is free of rust. Clean title history and will pass a smog and safety inspection. Engine compartment is clean, with no fluid leaks and is free of any wear or visible defects. Complete and verifiable service records. Less than 5% of all used vehicles fall into this category. $4,965 Good $4,565 Fair $4,065 you have to negotiate or you will get stuck with something like that. 5k for a CHERRY 65k tt. lol
